Attack On Ekweremadu: PDP Supports IPOB, They Owe Nigerians An Apology – APC

Published

on

The All Progressives Congress (APC), has finally reacted to the shameful assault on Senator Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President of the country.

The APC while condemning the attack on Senator Ekweremadu in Germany, said that the main opposition party in the country, the PDP should apologize to Nigerians for showing support to IPOB in the past.

The APC made this known via a statement which was signed by Lanre Issa-Onilu, the National Publicity Secretary of the party. A part of the statement reads, ‘It is clear that PDP and its other shortsighted co-travelers who were the main cheerleaders of IPOB owe this country an apology.

IPOB hid under regional identity to perpetrate criminality having recruited some misguided elements and miscreants. The APC further said that it was not surprised by what it described as the hypocritical reaction of the PDP to the attack on Senator Ekweremadu.

They further said the actions of the PDP was as a result of the party’s shortsightedness as they had allowed ‘narrow sentiments’ to becloud their sense of judgment.

“Are we surprised by the PDP’s hypocritical reaction to the unfortunate attack on Senator Ekweremadu? No! The PDP and their leaders have acted true to type. This is what happens when politicians become myopic and allow narrow sentiments becloud their sense of judgement,” part of the statement read.

They however ended the statement by noting that it is the collective responsibility of all Nigerians to take a stand against evil wherever it may be found and in whatever form it may appear.

A Nigerian man identified as Chukwa Onwumere Zef, along with a Sri Lankan citizen have been arrested and detained by the Kancheepuram district police near Mamallapuram on charges of staying illegally in India.

The two men were caught during a door-to-door inspection ahead of the informal meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese president Xi Jinping scheduled to take place in the coastal town from October 11 to 13.

While the travel documents of the Nigerian had expired, the Lankan national was found to have entered the country illegally a decade ago. The Nigerian was staying in the house of Nagamuthu in Venpurusham, a village near Mamallapuram.

“Both his passport and visa have expired but he hasn’t applied for extension,” said a police officer. The Mamallapuram police registered a case and detained him. Inquiries revealed that Raja Nayagam, 41, a native of Killinochi in Sri Lanka  had entered India illegally in 2009 and was working as a painter. He was staying at the house of Balakrishnan, police said.

Kancheepuram district police said the house owners will be interrogated about housing foreign nationals in their premises without checking for relevant documents. The intensive checks will continue in the coming days, a senior police officer said. The two detained on Friday, September 20th were booked under Section 12 of The Passports Act and section 14 of the Foreigners Act

BREAKING: Another PDP Gov. Ishaku Wins APC At Tribunal

pdp

The Taraba State Governorship Election Tribunal has dismissed the petition by Abubakar Danladi of the All Progressive Party (APC) challenging the re-election of Governor Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 9, 2019 governorship election.

A three-man panel led by Justice M.O. Adewara unanimously held that the petitioners failed to prove their claims that the marred by irregularities and substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

Justice Adewara, who read the lead judgment, also held that since a Federal High Court in the state, gave a judgment on March 6, 2019, in suit: FHC/JAL/CS/01/2019, disqualifying Danladi from contesting the election, he could not be said to be a candidate in the election.

The tribunal also held that since judgment was upheld up to the Supreme Court, it meant that APC had no valid candidate in the election, did not participate in the election and was not qualified, along with Danladi, to have presented a petition before the tribunal.

The tribunal further held, that even if the petition was to be considered on the merit, the petition failed to lead sufficient evidence to establish their claims that Ishaku was not validly elected by majority of lawful votes and that the election was marred by irregularities, non-compliance and corrupt practices.

Osinbajo’s Office Not Sidelined – Presidency

The Presidency has disproved claims that the office of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been sidelined after a change of the Economic Management Team (EMT) headed by Prof. Osinbajo.

President Muhammadu Buhari had recently set up a new-look economic advisory team which has economists such as Prof. Charles Soludo, Bismarck Rewane, and others, to take over from the team previously overseen by the Vice President.

Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Thursday on Channels TV dismissed the claims as false, Igbere TV reports.

Mr Adesina said the presidency is united and that Buhari is only working for the good of Nigerians.

He said that the insinuation that there was a rift between Osinbajo and Buhari was being spread by detractors of the Federal Government.

“The Vice President is the number two man in the country.

The new economic advisory body can also relate with the Vice President as necessary,” Adesina said.

“It’s just some Nigerians who want to drive a wedge between the President and the VP, that read meanings into everything and insinuate but there’s no need for that.”
