Be Bonest With Fight Against Terrorists In Northwest – HURIWA Tells Buhari

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to be honest with the fight against terrorists attacking the Northwest region of the country.

HURIWA said the “lackadaisical” attitude of the President in handling issues of terrorism in the Northwest part of the country was unjustifiable and tragic.

National Coordinator of the group, Emmanuel Onwubiko, made call yesterday while hosting some governors and federal lawmakers.

He said: “The lingering development in the Northwest is the most amazing one because of the fact that they are the same people, the same religion but keep on killing and stealing each other’s cattle and burning their own villages.

“This has made it necessary for the Federal Government to change the entire security approach by redeploying soldiers and other security forces to restore peace in the affected region.”

Onwubiko noted that it was troubling that the terrorist attacks were characterised by mass kidnapping of school children and killing of security operatives including shooting down a military Jet in Zamfara State.

He said it was outrageous and provocative that “President Buhari pampers the terrorists by first calling them mere bandits instead of declaring them as terrorists that they are.”

HURIWA further said: “President Buhari should know that what troubles rational human beings all over the world is that his government uses sledge hammer to crush the largely unarmed Eastern Security Network (ESN) and Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in the Southeast and the Yoruba Nation freedom crusaders who are unarmed in the Southwest.

“But the same President Buhari resorts to empty rhetorics and sophistry on matters concerning the terrorists in the Northwest thereby making the rest of Nigerians to assume that the largely Fulani militia doing the terrorism acts in the Northwest are being pamper.

mpered for ethno-religious considerations.
