COVID-19: Irate Youths Chase Police With Masquerades To Defy Lockdown

Angry youth on Thursday dealt mercilessly with police by chasing them with Masquerades to defying sit at home lockdown in Imo amid Government directive to lockdown everywhere to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus that has been ravaging the nation since February 27 when an Italian aboard Turkish airlines brought the novel virus to the country.

According to Herald News, the incident occurred in Arondizuogu Community, Okigwe area of the state where the youth were celebrating the Ikeji festival in definace of the Coronavirus Lockdown sit at home directive by the state government.

According to the state police public relations officer, the policemen had stormed the community to disparse the celebration but the irate youths stood resilience and chased away the policemen with Masquerades.

According to the elders of the community, they said they had earlier warned the Youth to Suspend the festival in compliance with Government directive of lockdown and banning of Religious gathering due to the Coronavirus but the youths insisted of going on with the festival.

The Divisional Police Officer of Okigwe said the youth refused to stopped their gathering and when police try to disparse them, at that point they started chasing the officers with Masquerades.

The DPO said no life was lost and no arrest were made during the process as they try to curtail and avoid further breakdown of laws.
