Head Of Service, Oyo-Ita Tenders Resignation Letter After EFCC Probe

Nigeria’s Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, has reportedly tendered her resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari amid corruption allegation levelled against her. It was gathered that her immediate family mounted pressure on her to retire after news reports emerged that she was being probed over an alleged N3 billion contract scam. Oyo-Ita who was expected to speak at the 2019 Presidential Retreat which was organised for ministers designate and top government officials was absent at the venue. She was expected to speak on ‘Consolidating Ongoing Reforms in the Public Service’ by 11.10am on Tuesday. Her resignation may, however, truncate her lecture. TheCable in a report confirmed that the troubled Head of Service of the Federation sent in a letter on Sunday offering to proceed on retirement, the government of President Muhammadu Buhari was yet to confirm the receipt of her resignation at the time of this report. An anonymous family member was quoted by the online news platform as saying “Mrs Oyo-Ita has sent in her letter of retirement.” Recalled that Nigeria’s anti-graft agency recently questioned Oyo-Ita over allegations that she used front companies to get contracts when she was a permanent secretary before her appointment as Head of Service by Buhari in 2015. She denied the allegation. There are insinuations that she was being punished for “falling out” with Buhari’s Chief of Staff, but it was also gathered that Oyo-Ita warned her associates not to drag Abba Kyari into the matter. The document that contained alleged financial mismanagement against her according the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was written in 2014 during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
