A former Presidential aide Mr Reno Omokri, a speechwriter and now a lecturer at a U.S. university Dr Farooq Kperogi, and other Nigerians have mocked Nobel Laurette Prof. Wole Soyinka after officials of the Nigeria Police Force sealed off the venue of a symposium where he and other speakers were to speak on the state of insecurity in the country.

The programme which was organised by the Coalition for Revolution (CORE) scheduled to hold at 46, Ibijoke street, Oluyole bus-stop, Oregun, Lagos, could not hold as policemen took strategic positions to prevent speakers from gaining entry into the venue.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria Chief Femi Falana and another human rights lawyer, Affiong Affiong among others were warming up when to speak on the theme: “Democracy, State Repression and the State of insecurity in Nigeria” before they realised the venue had been taken over by the police.

Reacting, Reno said Soyinka was one of the powerful voices that voted former President Goodluck Jonathan out of office in 2015 presidential poll.

“Wole Soyinka co-created the Frankenstein monster that General @MBuhari has become with his ‘anyone but Jonathan’ mantra. Now @GEJonathan  is OUT of POWER and Soyinka is OUT of FREEDOM and he wants us to come OUT on the streets? No. Enjoy your monster!”

Kperogi, an Associate Professor of Journalism and Emerging Media at Kennesaw State University, United States, said he warned Soyinka and Nigerians before the 2019 general election not to vote for Buhari.

“We warned about this next-level fascist strangulation of the discursive space. Soyinka (and others) took orders from Tinubu and didn’t oppose Buhari’s clearly rigged second term. Now he’s a victim. Nice horror movie to watch. More popcorn, please!”
