Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, has nominated Edward Onoja as the State Deputy Governor few hours after the impeachment of Simon Achuba was impeached by the Kogi state house of assembly over an alleged gross misconduct.

Onoja’s nomination as Deputy Governor came two days after he resigned from his position as Govenor Yahaya Bello’s Chief of Staff.  Abdulkareem Jamiu was appointed to replace him.

It is expected that Onoja who is the most influential member of the governor’s cabinet will be sworn-in on Saturday October 19.

The 44-year-old indigene of Emonyoku Ogugu in Olamaboro local government area of Kogi state, had sought the ticket of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) for a house of assembly seat in 2011. He was also the chief strategist of “Yahaya Bello Campaign Organization” in 2015

DAMMYLINK had earlier reported that the Embattled Deputy Governor of Kogi, Mr Simon Achuba, has been impeached. Mr Achuba was impeached by members of the Kogi State House of Assembly on Friday in Lokoja, the state capital.

He was impeached by the House of Assembly shortly after it received report of a judicial panel of enquiry set up by the Kogi State Chief Judge Justice Nasir Ajanah. House Leader, Hassan Bello Abdulahi, representing Ajaokuta state constituency, said Achuba was impeached following consideration of the report of the John Bayeshea-led committee.

Abdulahi said that the report was accepted with lawmakers unanimously agreeing to impeach Achuba and “he therefore stands impeached.”

The committee, which was inaugurated on Aug. 26, probed allegations of gross misconduct leveled against the Deputy Governor.

Mr Simon Achuba had been in logjam with the state Governor, Yahaya Bello and accused him of withholding his salaries and allowances since 2017, but the government dismissed the allegation as untrue during hearing by the committee. Fac
